Pride vs. Proud
“You are generous to me, dear Lord; you have taught my soul to trust you.” (Psalm 57 – Stephen Mitchell: A Bok of Psalms).
There are always many events to celebrate in June. Weddings, anniversaries, births, graduations and the list goes on. There’s just something about June. Personally, it always meant Mom and Dad’s anniversary on the 23rd and Mom’s birthday on the 29th. Although I don’t get to celebrate them anymore, they will always have a special place in my heart and make me proud that I was lucky to have loving and patient parents. From a heavenly distance, I hope they are taking great pride in all I’ve accomplished and in all I try to do every day to make them proud.
When we remember how generous God is to us and recall how much our souls trust in Him, whether we realize it or not; we can celebrate ourselves, be proud and take pride in the fact that God is pleased!
In the midst of all our celebrating this month take a moment and acknowledge yourself for all you’ve accomplished. Stop and be proud of all that you have achieved. You moved through difficult and sometimes painful situations, illness, great disappointments, bouts of uncertainty, loneliness, learned new skills, survived the loss of loved ones, wondered what God was thinking, raised teenagers, fell in love, fell out of love, put up with difficult bosses, and lived life as best you could. And I’m certain you could add to the list.
So, this June give yourself permission to celebrate your successes, honor and acknowledge yourselves and give those around you the encouragement and space to do the same. And don’t forget to thank God for his generosity and your soul for trusting when trust may have been the farthest thing from your mind.
Stand tall, be proud, be thankful for you’ve given God much to boast about!
